Welcome to the Kurt Kraft Fair Taxes campaign — for every concerned taxpayer!

As your new Duval County Property Appraiser I will focus on the need to see that fair assessment values are ensured and enforced equally throughout every economic level of the community.

Starting off, I will seek to restore the confidence, the trust, we the voters need to have in the office of Duval County Property Appraiser. Consider the following and see if you don’t agree with me and many others that Jerry Holland, the current Property Appraiser, has compromised the integrity and the efficiency of the office during his term in that office.

Since Jerry Holland has been Property Appraiser, starting July 1, 2015, his office has been INVESTIGATED by the U.S. Department of Labor; The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE); the City of Jacksonville, Office of Inspector General; the City of Jacksonville, the Human Rights Commission; and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

In reference to a City of Jacksonville public document, Jerry Holland’s electronic, personal parking garage card activity (payroll deducted), print out of entry/exit, when calculated is approximately 24 hours per week average, garage times, over thirty-four block weeks, weekday (M-F) period.

The parking garage is connected to the building that has the Property Appraiser’s Office. Is this the kind of work ethic we expect from an important elected official, making about $153,000 per year, plus pension and benefits? Is this a part-time Property Appraiser, with a full-time salary?

Any exemption fraud will be handled by the Property Appraiser’s Office, NOT by an outside private, for-profit company. No outsourcing of jobs, and saving the taxpayers money in the process.

After Jerry Holland became Property Appraiser, there was a private shower installed in Jerry Holland’s individual office restroom, within his individual administrative office, in the Property Appraiser’s Office. I will close and board up the shower stall. No Showers!

I, Kurt Kraft, have over 33 years of lifetime career service of appraisal within the Duval County Property Appraiser’s Office, Jacksonville, Florida, having served in residential, commercial, and income producing properties that all require their own high level of management skill and expertise. I am prepared to take the Duval County Property Appraiser’s Office forward under new leadership that is both knowledgeable and professional, that is both responsible and accountable and, every bit as importantly, principled. I have a Bachelor of Business Administration, with a Major in Real Estate, from Kent State University, and a Voluntary Inactive, Florida Real Estate Broker’s License.

Over many years on the job I have had the opportunity, the privilege to learn and listen, first hand, to the many concerns and needs voiced by our taxpayers all across the county. Hearing from people on the job, person to person has always been a source of pride and pleasure for me as I went about pulling the measuring tape and nowadays, reading a measuring laser.

I will bring this kind of sensitivity to the office of Duval County Property Appraiser as I continue to work on your behalf for the needs of our community. And for the restoration of trust in this critical county position.
